Design Manager

What will this job do to improve your life?

This is an opportunity to take genuine ownership of design across a substantial pipeline of utility-scale renewable energy projects.

Rather than operating within one narrow engineering discipline, you will influence projects from early concept design through procurement and construction. You will have the scope to challenge designs, improve project economics and help establish standardised approaches that can be applied across future Solar, BESS and hybrid projects.

You will join a close-knit technical team where your decisions will have direct visibility across the wider business and a tangible impact on projects progressing towards financial close and construction.

About the role

Vinova are working with a leading renewable energy developer and investor that has already developed, financed and delivered more than 1GW of Solar and BESS projects into operation across the NEM.

Reporting into the senior technical leadership team, you will lead design development across the portfolio and work closely with Origination, Power Systems, Procurement and external engineering consultants.

You will take a whole-of-project view of design, balancing reliability, CAPEX, OPEX, performance and safety while managing interfaces across multiple engineering disciplines and external stakeholders.

Duties

  • Develop concept designs with Origination to maximise site potential and address site constraints
  • Review and challenge consultant and contractor designs across Solar, BESS and hybrid projects
  • Coordinate design interfaces with TNSPs, Power Systems, Procurement and external consultants
  • Drive standard design approaches that reduce cost, improve reliability and limit execution risk

Skills & experience

  • Strong understanding of the end-to-end design process for utility-scale Solar and BESS assets
  • Electrical engineering qualifications and familiarity with Australian electrical design practice
  • Experience coordinating multiple engineering disciplines across complex infrastructure projects
  • Ability to technically review designs and challenge engineering approaches from a whole-of-project perspective
  • Strong knowledge of the Australian renewable energy market, contractors and relevant electricity industry requirements

Benefits

  • Take design ownership across a large pipeline of Solar and BESS projects
  • Work across projects from early development through procurement and construction
  • Join a growing, entrepreneurial renewable energy business with an established operational portfolio
  • Gain broad exposure across technical, commercial, procurement and grid workstreams
  • Opportunity to directly influence design standards and future project strategy

Company & culture

Our client is an established renewable energy developer and investor with more than 1GW of Solar and storage projects already developed, financed and brought into operation across the NEM.

The business has a similarly sized near-term development portfolio approaching financial close alongside a significant longer-term pipeline.

You will join a dynamic and close-knit team that values people who take ownership, make clear decisions and approach technical challenges with a pragmatic and solutions-focused mindset. The environment will suit someone who enjoys autonomy, moves quickly and wants to make a tangible contribution to Australia’s energy transition.
