Job Title: Electrical Supervisor – EHV Substation Construction Project

About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Electrical Supervisor to oversee the electrical build and commissioning phase of the a large substation project for a TNSP. This is a critical role within a fast-paced and challenging infrastructure project that will integrate renewable energy storage with Victoria’s high-voltage transmission network.
As an Electrical Supervisor, you will be responsible for ensuring the successful execution of all electrical installation and commissioning activities. You will work closely with the clients design teams, and construction teams to ensure project milestones are met within the accelerated program while maintaining high safety and quality standards. Given the site constraints, including industrial relations (IR) challenges, limited space, and extreme weather conditions, you will need to demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervision & Coordination: Oversee all electrical installation activities, ensuring compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations.
- Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team of electricians, subcontractors, and tradespeople, providing guidance, technical support, and performance oversight.
- Interface Management: Coordinate and manage interfaces between Design, and Construction teams to ensure seamless execution of electrical works.
- HSE & Quality Compliance: Work closely with QA and HSE teams to uphold high safety standards, conduct risk assessments, and ensure compliance with Transgrid’s safety policies and regulatory requirements.
- Material & Resource Management: Ensure all electrical materials, tools, and equipment are available on-site as per the construction schedule.
- Problem-Solving & Decision-Making: Identify and resolve technical and operational challenges that may arise during installation and commissioning.
- Testing & Commissioning: Supervise pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, ensuring seamless energization and integration into the high-voltage network.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain strong communication with key stakeholders, including project managers, engineers, and contractors, to ensure alignment and timely decision-making.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of work progress, site issues, safety reports, and quality assurance documentation.
Key Requirements:
- Electrical Trade Qualification or Diploma/Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Experience: Minimum 5+ years experience in high-voltage substation construction, preferably 500kV and above.
- Strong knowledge of high-voltage electrical systems, transformers, switchgear, protection, and control systems.
- Proven experience managing site teams, subcontractors, and multi-disciplinary interfaces.
- Experience working on large-scale infrastructure or renewable energy projects is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of HSE, QA/QC procedures, and IR challenges in a high-risk environment.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
- Valid Electrical License (if applicable) and relevant site safety certifications (White Card, HV Switching Certificate, First Aid preferred).
