Construction Manager

What will this job do to improve your life?

You will take a genuine client-side leadership role across the delivery of a highly complex, services-intensive building, working closely with the head contractor and wider project team to drive programme, cost, quality and construction outcomes.

The role offers exposure across the full project lifecycle from design and procurement through construction, commissioning and handover, while giving you the opportunity to step into a business with a significant long-term development pipeline and clear scope for future progression.

This is a permanent, Monday-Friday site-based position in Sydney.

About the role

Vinova are working with a major Australian data centre owner and operator to appoint a Construction Manager for a large-scale development in Sydney.

You will represent the client throughout construction, working closely with the principal contractor to ensure the project remains aligned across programme, cost, quality, safety and technical delivery.

The project is heavily services-led, with significant electrical, mechanical, controls, backup power and commissioning requirements alongside the wider structural, architectural and building scopes.

This role will suit someone who has progressed through major project delivery and is comfortable taking ownership, challenging contractors and solving complex construction issues in a collaborative environment.

Candidates from data centres are highly regarded, however experience delivering hospitals, pharmaceutical facilities, laboratories, airports or other complex vertical projects will also be considered.

Duties

  • Lead construction delivery on behalf of the client across a major data centre development
  • Manage and challenge the principal contractor against programme, cost, quality and delivery milestones
  • Coordinate interfaces across structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical and commissioning teams
  • Identify programme risks, construction issues and potential delays early and drive practical solutions
  • Oversee design coordination, procurement, construction sequencing and technical information
  • Monitor contractor performance, commercial issues, reporting and project risk
  • Support commissioning, integrated testing, completion and final handover
  • Lead and mentor internal construction, services and engineering resources
  • Maintain strong relationships across contractors, consultants and senior project stakeholders

Skill/experience

  • Experience delivering major complex building projects for a Tier 1 or established Tier 2 contractor
  • Background as a Construction Manager, Senior Project Manager, Project Manager, Services Manager or similar senior delivery role
  • Strong understanding of construction programme, procurement, commercial management and contractor performance
  • Exposure to major building services and electrical installation highly regarded
  • Experience across data centres, hospitals, pharmaceutical facilities, laboratories, airports or other highly serviced buildings preferred
  • Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and complex interfaces across the complete build
  • Strong communication, leadership and stakeholder-management capability
  • Comfortable working in a client-side environment and influencing contractors rather than directly controlling the workforce
  • Australian citizenship required due to project security requirements

Benefits

  • Total package up to $336,000, depending on experience
  • Permanent position with a major Australian data centre owner and operator
  • Work on a significant hyperscale development in Sydney
  • Exposure across construction, services, commissioning and handover
  • Opportunity to move from contractor-side delivery into a broader client-side leadership position
  • Strong long-term pipeline of major data centre developments
  • Genuine opportunity to progress into broader project and programme leadership

Company & culture

  • Established Australian data centre owner and operator with a significant national development pipeline
  • Delivery environment focused on quality, programme certainty and long-term asset performance
  • Collaborative construction team with experienced project, services and engineering professionals
  • Strong visibility with senior construction and development leadership
