About the role

Vinova are working with a major Australian data centre owner and operator to appoint an HSE Manager for their NSW portfolio.

The position will work alongside an established HSE leadership team and support both construction/development projects and operational data centre campuses across Western Sydney.

Approximately 70% of the role will be focused on construction and development activity, working closely with principal contractors, project teams and senior stakeholders to ensure high-risk activities are planned and executed safely.

The remaining scope will support live operational environments where electrical switching, critical plant, contractors and operational safety are key considerations.

This role will suit someone who has worked in high-risk construction or infrastructure environments and can combine strong technical safety knowledge with the ability to influence people, challenge behaviours and build a positive safety culture.

Duties

  • Provide HSE leadership across major construction and operational environments
  • Partner with project teams, principal contractors and subcontractors to improve safety performance
  • Drive serious incident and fatality prevention initiatives across high-risk activities
  • Conduct site inspections, assurance activities and safety reviews
  • Lead and support incident investigations, including ICAM investigations
  • Review contractor safety systems, SWMS, risk assessments and critical control processes
  • Support safe electrical switching, operational works and contractor activities across live facilities
  • Identify emerging HSE risks and implement practical improvement strategies
  • Coach project leaders and operational teams to strengthen safety ownership and accountability
  • Support HSE reporting, governance and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Build strong relationships across construction, operations, engineering and senior leadership teams

Skill/experience

  • Strong HSE experience within high-risk construction, infrastructure or industrial environments
  • Background across sectors such as major construction, tunnelling, power distribution, utilities, mining, gas, water or industrial facilities highly regarded
  • Strong understanding of serious incident and fatality prevention
  • Demonstrated experience leading or supporting ICAM investigations
  • Experience working with principal contractors and subcontractors on major projects
  • Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, risk management and critical controls
  • Comfortable working around high-risk electrical and operational environments
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and frontline teams without relying solely on process or compliance
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Trade or technical background followed by a move into HSE would be highly regarded
  • Experience helping develop a positive and proactive safety culture rather than operating purely as a compliance function
